Planning to buy a Maruti car? This might be the best time! Maruti Suzuki India has announced massive price cuts across its popular models after the government slashed GST rates earlier this month. The new prices are already in effect, passing on the full benefit of the tax cut to customers.
The entry-level Alto K10 is now cheaper by a whopping ₹1,07,600, with a new starting price of ₹3.69 lakh. On the other end, the premium Grand Vitara has also seen a similar reduction, now starting at ₹10.76 lakh.
Why The Price Drop?
On September 4, 2025, the government rolled out India’s biggest GST reform since the tax was first introduced in 2017. The old four-tier structure (5%, 12%, 18%, 28%) was replaced with just two main slabs — 5% for essentials and 18% for discretionary goods. A new 40% slab was created for luxury cars and tobacco.
To bring clarity, the government has also defined what qualifies as a “small car”:
- Less than 4 metres in length
- Petrol engines below 1,200 cc / diesel engines below 1,500 cc
These cars will now be taxed at 18% GST, while bigger cars with higher engine capacity fall under the 40% GST bracket. EVs continue at 5% GST.
